MATERIAL INSTINCT features the work of 24 exceptional Bay Area women and non-binary artists across a variety of mediums with a focus on materiality and non-representational work.
Curated by Makiko Harris and Rebecca Kaufman, MATERIAL INSTINCT was born from a discussion about the importance of mentorship and connection amongst women and non-binary artists, a need for more opportunities to connect intergenerational artists across mediums to create a more inclusive and supportive community, and a desire to celebrate and highlight the amazing work being created by artists working with materiality and abstraction in the Bay Area.
